Etymology: < late Latin irresistibilis (see Quicherat), < ir- (ir- prefix2) + resistĕre to resist v.: see -ible suffix, and compare French irrésistible (admitted by the Academy in 1762). The forms resistable, irresistable were English formations on resist verb.
