1922 Glasgow Herald 24 Apr. 10 The ‘ionamines’ will have nothing to do with this homely fibre [sc. cotton]. They will only dye silk, either real or artificial.

Dyers & Colourists 39 12/1 Those Ionamines which are derived from primary amido compounds or contain free amido groups are capable of being diazotised upon the fibre, and in combination with various developers produce a wide range of shades from orange to scarlet, red, maroon, violet, blue and black.

1954 T. Vickerstaff Physical Chem. Dyeing (ed. 2) x. 324 Special dyes called Ionamines were used. These consisted of addition compounds of amines and formaldehyde-bisulphite compounds.

1971 R. L. M. Allen Colour Chem. i. 12 Systems in which the solubilising groups are eliminated by hydrolysis during or after dyeing have also been used in dyes such as the Ionamine (British Dyestuffs Corp.) and Neocotone..ranges, but these have now been superseded.

2001 P. Ball Bright Earth ix. 256 In 1922 the British Dyestuffs Corporation introduced ‘ionamine’ dyes.
