1. Heraldry. Of a beast or other charge: represented as emerging (from or out of something, as a coronet, the lower line of a chief, etc.), often with only the upper part visible. Frequently as postmodifier. Cf. issant adj. 2. issuant and revertant: (of a beast) shown with the upper part emerging from the base of the shield while a separate lower part disappears into the top. rare.
