Etymology: < jack- (in jackrabbit n.) + -elope (in antelope n.).The origin of the second -a- in the usual spelling jackalope is unclear.
A mythical animal depicted as a hare or rabbit with horns and said to exist in parts of North America. Also: a representation of this animal created using taxidermic techniques.
