Etymology: < Italian (originally and chiefly regional: southern) iettatore, †jettatore person who has the evil eye, person who brings bad luck (1788) < iettare , regional (southern) variant of gettare to cast, throw (see jet v.2) + -tore (see -or suffix). Compare French jettatore (1817; < Italian). Compare slightly earlier jettatura n.
