Cf. the description in Dryden Don Sebastian v. i: ‘Those rings..a curious artist wrought them With joints so close as not to be perceived: Yet are they both each others counterpart; Her part had Juan inscribed, and his had Zaida..and in the midst A heart divided in two parts was placed’.
