1891 A. Cunningham Coins Anc. India 36 A script named Kharosti, which was read from right to left, is said to have been one of the forms taught to the youthful Buddha.

India 37 As the name was derived from the inventor of the writing, I think it probable that the name of Zoroaster, or Zardusht himself, may have been preserved in the term Kharosti, as the inventor or introducer of that particular form of writing. The Kharosti alphabet, under this view of its origin, would naturally have penetrated into every country under Akhæmenian rule.
