Etymology: < (i) Middle French judaique (c1450; c1300 in Old French in an isolated attestation as judaïke , subsequently 1414 as judeique ; French judaïque ), and its etymon (ii) classical Latin Iūdaicus of or originating in Judaea, of or relating to the Jews, Jewish < Hellenistic Greek Ἰουδαϊκός Jewish (Septuagint) < Ἰουδαῖος (see Judaean adj.) + -ικός -ic suffix. Compare Catalan judaic (1344), Spanish judaico (c1400), Portuguese judaico (1525), Italian giudaico (14th cent. as †iudaico ). Compare earlier Judaical adj., Judeish adj.In form Jewdaick showing alteration after Jew n.
