单词 judicate
释义

judicateadj.

Forms: 1500s iudicate.
Origin: Of uncertain origin. Perhaps a borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin iūdicātus, iūdicāre.
Etymology: Origin uncertain. Perhaps < classical Latin iūdicātus, past participle of iūdicāre to judge (see judge v.), although the Latin past participle means ‘that has been judged’ rather than ‘having jurisdiction’. With the semantic development, perhaps compare classical Latin iūdicātus office of a judge, in post-classical Latin also district under a judge, jurisdiction (13th cent.; < classical Latin iūdic- , iūdex judge n. + -ātus -ate suffix1).
Obsolete. rare.
Probably: that has jurisdiction.
