Etymology: < the name of Gaston Maurice Julia (1893–1978), Algerian-born French mathematician.

Julia set n. the set of complex numbers z which do not stay within a bounded region of the complex plane when a given mapping, esp. one of the form zz2 + c (where c is a constant complex number), is repeatedly applied to them. Also, the boundary of such a set; a diagrammatic representation of such a set.
