单词 kashata
释义

kashatan.

Brit. /kəˈʃɑːtə/, U.S. /kəˈʃɑdə/, East African English /kaˈʃata/
Origin: A borrowing from Swahili. Etymon: Swahili kashata.
Etymology: < Swahili kashata < Arabic qašṭa (also qišṭa) clotted cream, grits, variant of classical Arabic qišda the sediment which remains at the bottom of a batch of butter which has been cooked with wheat in order to make it into clarified butter < qašada to skim, to take the cream off.The semantic development of the Arabic borrowing in Swahili is explained by the fact that the varieties of Arabic spoken on the Arabian peninsula emphasize the solid aspect of the substance, while the Levantine and Egyptian varieties emphasize its liquid aspect. Swahili borrowings from Arabic are often taken from varieties of Arabic spoken on the Arabian peninsula.
In East African cookery: a type of confectionery, typically made with coconut or peanuts or both, and flavoured with cinnamon and cardamom.
