1925 Nature 24 Oct. 609/2 The hypothesis of an electrically conducting stratum in the upper air was clearly enunciated in an article by Prof. A. E. Kennelly..published in the Electrical World and Engineer of New York on March 15, 1902. The official date of Heaviside's disclosure of his hypothesis is December 19, 1902... If names are to be attached to the hypothetical layer it should be called, in equity, the ‘Kennelly–Heaviside’ layer, a name which is beginning to be used in America.

1932 Discovery Oct. 308/1 The Kennelly–Heaviside layer..is responsible for the reflection of long and medium wireless wavelengths.

1933 Discovery Oct. 306/1 Professor Appleton..observed that there was yet another layer beyond the Kennelly layer.

1963 G. M. B. Dobson Exploring Atmosphere viii. 142 These different ionized regions are usually known by the letters which have been placed alongside them in the diagram, but the E region is also known as the ‘Kennelly–Heaviside’ region, and the F region as the ‘Appleton’ region, after their discoverers.

1972 Science 5 May 463/2 It was not until 1926 that the existence of this ‘Kennelly–Heaviside layer’ was established beyond all doubt.
