An extinct hominid, Kenyanthropus platyops, known from Pliocene fossil remains found in northern Kenya dated to between 3.5 and 3.2 million years ago, and usually interpreted as one of several contemporary human-like hominids. Also: the genus Kenyanthropus itself.The status of the single distorted specimen is somewhat controversial; some workers place it in Australopithecus, or identify it with A. afarensis or Homo rudolfensis.
