Etymology: < Bengali jhōṭo, jhuto < Sanskrit jūṭa, less usual form of jaṭā braid of hair.
a. The fibre obtained from the bark of the plants Corchorus capsularis and C. olitorius (family Tiliaceæ), imported chiefly from Bengal, and used in the manufacture of gunny, canvas, bagging, cordage, etc.

Etymology: In plural Jutes, a modern rendering of Bæda's Jutae and Juti, in Old English Eotas, Iótas, ? Iútan (genitive plural Iútna), also Geátas; = Icelandic Iótar people of Jutland on the mainland of Denmark.
In plural. One of the three Low German tribes which, according to the account preserved by Bæda, invaded and settled in Britain in the fifth and sixth centuries; they are said to have occupied districts now included in Kent and Hampshire.
