a1843 R. Southey Doctor (1847) VI. 215 A necessary part of a suit of armour was distinguished by this name (genouillères) in the days of chivalry; and the article of dress which corresponds to it may be called kneelets, if for a new article we strike a new word.
1896 Westm. Gaz. 31 Mar. 3/2 This is, properly speaking, not a garter at all: it is a kneelet, if I may coin the term.
