Etymology: < knub n. + Scots -lock (also -loch), diminutive suffix ( < -le suffix 1 + -ock suffix). Compare earlier knubble n.
Scottish. Now rare.
A small rounded object, such as a stone or clod of earth; a lump or chunk (of something); a small swelling or protuberance. Also figurative: an insignificant person. Cf. knablick n. Sc. National Dict. (at cited word) records the word as still in use in Aberdeenshire in 1960, but marks it as obsolescent.
