In the Presbyterian Churches of Scotland (and formerly also in some Presbyterian Churches which developed from the Church of Scotland): the lowest ecclesiastical court, composed of the minister and a number of elected ruling elders of the parish or congregation. Also: a meeting of this court. Cf. consistory n. 9, session n. 6.Some congregations of the Church of Scotland, as well as those of the Free Church of Scotland, have also a Deacons' Court (cf. deacon n.¹ 1c), to administer the secular affairs of the church such as finance and building repair.
