单词 | laccolith |
释义 | laccolithn. Geology. A mass of igneous rock, typically lens-shaped, that has been intruded between rock strata causing uplift in the shape of a dome. ΚΠ 1880 J. D. Dana Man. Geol. (ed. 3) 840 The laccolith, as is seen, rests on horizontal strata. 1944 A. Holmes Princ. Physical Geol. vi. 86 There are few good examples of laccoliths in Britain, though many stocks have been wrongly called laccoliths. Stocks are discordant intrusions, whereas laccoliths, like sills, are concordant. 1960 B. W. Sparks Geomorphol. vii. 151 Laccoliths, which are closely related to sills but which were formed from a magma too viscous to spread far, may form local dome-like features when exposed by erosion. 2008 Irish Jrnl. Earth Sci. 26 41/1 Those magmas migrated westward into the adjacent wall-rocks: one to form a large laccolith, the other to form a balloon.
