Etymology: < (i) Middle French largicion, largition bountiful giving, also an instance of this (a1359; French †largition ), and its etymon (ii) classical Latin largītiōn-, largītiō distribution of land or other gifts, corrupt giving of presents, bribery, bribe, largesse < largīt- , past participial stem of largīrī to give generously, to engage in bribery, to confer generously, grant, bestow, to condone or overlook ( < largus large adj.) + -iō -ion suffix1. Compare Spanish †largición (1424), Italian largizione (1260).
Now rare.
