Etymology: < classical Latin laciniōsus having jagged edges (e.g. of leaves), fringed, well-clothed, wrapped up, in post-classical Latin also convoluted, prolix (late 2nd or early 3rd cent. in Tertullian) < lacinia lacinia n. + -ōsus -ous suffix; compare -ous suffix.With use in sense 2, compare laciniate adj., laciniated adj.
Obsolete.
