Etymology: < Greek Λαοκόων.
The name of a legendary Trojan priest who, with his two sons, was crushed to death by two sea-serpents (Virgil Aeneid ii. 40–56, 199–231), used allusively, esp. with reference to statues representing him and his sons in their death-struggle. Frequently attributive.
