A large, widely distributed genus of ectomycorrhizal fungi of the family Russulaceae, the members of which typically have a fruiting body with a brittle texture and a flattened cap exuding white or coloured latex when bruised or cut; (also lactarius) a fungus of this genus (frequently with distinguishing word).Common names for these fungi include milk cap, milk mushroom, and milky cap.
