Origin: Formed within English, by compounding. Etymons: lady n., cushion n.
Etymology: < the genitive of lady n. + cushion n., although the first element is sometimes apprehended as plural; so called on account of the plants' habit of growing in thick tufts or clumps. Compare earlier Our Lady's cushion n. at Our Lady n. Compounds 2b.
Now rare.
