Etymology: < lager n. (from the beer-bottle tops used) + -phone comb. form.
Australian.
A percussion instrument consisting of a long pole with a cross-piece near the top, to which numerous beer-bottle tops are loosely nailed, producing a jingling noise when shaken or struck. Cf. Chinese pavilion n. at Chinese adj. and n. Compounds 8.
