Origin: A borrowing from Italian. Etymon: Italian largando.
Etymology: < Italian largando (not dated in dictionaries of Italian), probably shortened < allargando allargando n. O.E.D. Suppl. (1976) also records a non-naturalized pronunciation /larˈɡando/.
Music.
= allargando n. Also in extended use. Somewhat rare.In quot. 1883 humorously, as an example of abstruse musical terminology.
