/laŋ/, U.S. /ˈlæŋ/ Lang's lay n. (also Lang lay) a lay (lay n.7 7b) used for wire ropes and patented by Lang in 1879, in which the strands forming the rope are twisted in the same direction as the wires forming each strand.
