1970 Times 11 Feb. 7/3 Lassa fever infection can involve almost all the body's organs; symptoms may vary. The virus produces a fever as high as 107°F, mouth ulcers, a skin rash with small haemorrhages, pneumonia, infection of the heart leading to cardiac failure, kidney damage, and severe muscle aches.

1973 Nature 12 Jan. 92/1 Man-to-man spread of Lassa virus undoubtedly takes place through contact with blood or infectious secretions, but a reservoir of infection has yet to be identified.
