Etymology: < the name of Lambeth, a South London borough.
1. Used allusively (chiefly attributively) to refer to the Archbishop of Canterbury, whose palace is at Lambeth, or to the Church of England; esp. in Lambeth Conference n. an assembly of the Anglican bishops, usually held decennially at Lambeth Palace. Lambeth degree n. a degree honoris causa conferred by the Archbishop of Canterbury. Lambeth doctor n. a person on whom the Archbishop of Canterbury has conferred a degree.
