Etymology: < the name of Theodor Langhans (1839–1915), German pathologist.
Histology.
Used attributively, in the possessive, and with of-adjunct to designate: (a) (a cell of) an inner layer of large cuboidal cells, one cell thick, that covers chorionic villi and lies beneath the syncytial layer; (b) a distinctive kind of giant cell which has many nuclei, arranged in a ring around the periphery or clustered together at one end of the cell, and is observed esp. in tuberculosis and related granulomatous conditions.
