Origin: Formed within English, by derivation; modelled on a French lexical item. Etymons: left brain n., -ed suffix2.
Etymology: < left brain n. + -ed suffix2, after left-handed adj. and French gaucher du cerveau (P. Broca 1865, in Bull. de la Soc. d'Anthropol. de Paris 6 383). Compare earlier brained adj. and slightly later right-brained adj.
Exhibiting dominance of the left hemisphere of the brain over the right, esp. with regard to motor and language functions; involving, requiring, or associated with activity of the left hemisphere. Later also (esp. in popular use): highly rational, analytical, and logical. Contrasted with right-brained adj.On popular use cf. note at left brain n.
