Origin: A borrowing from Yiddish. Etymon: Yiddish Litvak.
Etymology: < Yiddish Litvak Jew from the territory of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, also Misnagid (see Misnagid n.) < Polish Litwak Lithuanian person (now archaic), Jew from Lithuania (now historical; in this sense probably after Yiddish) < Litwa Lithuania + -ak , suffix forming nouns (see Rusnak n.).
A Jewish person from Lithuania or the surrounding region.
