Usually in one of the following phrases: lis pendens n. /ˈpɛndɛnz/ a pending legal action; also, a formal notice of pending litigation. lite pendente n. /ˈlɪteɪ pɛnˈdɛnteɪ/ see pendente lite adv. lis alibi pendens n. /ˈælɪbaɪ/ an action pending elsewhere (i.e., between the same parties in another court). lis mota n. /ˈməʊtə/ a legal action that has been initiated.
