Etymology: < Chinese (Mandarin) líjīn (Wade-Giles transcription li-chin) < li n.3 + jīn gold, metal, money.The medial k in some forms may reflect an earlier pronunciation of the Chinese (Mandarin) word; with the form lekim compare Chinese (southern Min) lîkim.

A tax levied in China, between 1853 and 1931, on the movement of goods and on the sale of goods in shops.
