单词 athame
释义

athamen.

Brit. /əˈθɑːmeɪ/, /əˈθeɪmeɪ/, U.S. /ˈæθəˌmeɪ/, /əˈθɑmeɪ/, /əˈθeɪmeɪ/
Forms: 1900s– arthame, 1900s– athame, 1900s– athamé.
Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French arthame.
Etymology: < French arthame (1929 in the passage translated in quot. 1931; earliest in an 18th-cent. manuscript of a text on witchcraft, the Key of Solomon) < post-classical Latin artavus knife (frequently from early 9th cent. in British sources), itself of unknown origin. Compare artanus, arthanus in a 1572 English version of the Key of Solomon; these appear to be mistranscriptions of the same Latin word.
A double-edged knife, typically having a black handle, used for ritual purposes in Wicca and other neopagan movements.
