Etymology: < post-classical Latin Longobardi (see Longobard n. and adj.) + -ian suffix. Compare Middle French, French (now rare) longobardien (1549 or earlier as noun, 1773 or earlier as adjective). Compare earlier Longobard n., longbeard n. and later Langobard n., Langobardian adj. at Langobard n. Derivatives.
