Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin aulicismus.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin aulicismus courtly expression or turn of phrase (1581 or earlier), tendency of clerics and other members of religious orders to curry favour with temporal rulers ( C. Acquaviva Industriae pro superioribus Societatis Jesu ad curandos animae morbos (1600) xv. 139) < classical Latin aulicus aulic adj. + post-classical Latin -ismus -ism suffix.
Somewhat rare.
