Etymology: < Sanskrit abhyaṅga rubbing with unctuous substances, unguent < abhyañj- to smear, anoint ( < abhi upon (see abhinaya n.) + añj- to smear, anoint < the same Indo-European base as classical Latin unguere : see unguent n.). Compare Sanskrit abhyañjana unguent.
