Etymology: < loco- (in locomotion n.) + mobile adj.1, after French locomobile (1797 or earlier as adjective, 1840 as noun), and probably also after earlier locomobility n. Compare earlier locomotive adj. N.E.D. (1903) gives the pronunciation as (lōukŏmōu·bil) /ləʊkəˈməʊbɪl/.
