Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin locus standi.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin locus standi place of standing (8th cent. in a British source) < classical Latin locus place (see locus n.1) + standī , genitive of gerund of stāre to stand (see stand v.).
1. Law. A right to appear before a court or other judicial body; a legal standing. Also as a mass noun. Cf. locus n.1 4.
