Etymology: < longful adj.2 + -ly suffix2.The following appears to show an independent formation < long adj.1 + -ful suffix + -ly suffix2, perhaps in sense ‘in greater detail’:1502 tr. Ordynarye of Crysten Men (de Worde) iv. vi. sig. siii Also he ought to declare of as moche that he hym confesseth the more playnly, and the more longfully, [Fr. plus loyaument] of as moche he shall loue hym the better.
