单词 lotion
释义

lotionn.

Brit. /ˈləʊʃn/, U.S. /ˈloʊʃ(ə)n/
Forms: Middle English loscion, Middle English–1500s locion, 1500s locioun (Scottish), 1500s locyon, 1500s lotyon, 1500s– lotion, 1600s lotium.
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin lōtiōn-, lōtiō.
Etymology: < classical Latin lōtiōn-, lōtiō act of washing, in post-classical Latin also water used for washing (13th cent. in a British source), recovery of lead from ashes (14th cent in a British source in lotio cinerum ) < lōt- (also laut- ), past participial stem of lavāre lave v.1 + -iō -ion suffix1. Compare Middle French locion , loccion act of washing the body (14th cent.; French lotion ; 1690 in sense ‘liquid preparation for washing the body’). With sense 3 compare earlier loture n.In form lotium (compare quot. a1656 at sense 1a) perhaps influenced by lotium n., or perhaps influenced by variation between -ion and -ium in words ultimately deriving from Greek etymons with -ιον (e.g. ganglion n. and pericranium n.).
