释义

Lotka–Volterran.

Brit. /ˌlɒtkəvɒlˈtɛrə/, U.S. /ˌlɑtkəˌvoʊlˈtɛrə/
Origin: From proper names. Etymons: proper names Lotka, Volterra.
Etymology: < the names of Alfred James Lotka (1880–1949), Austrian-born U.S. statistician, and Vito Volterra (1860–1940), Italian mathematician, who each independently proposed the model.Equations of this kind were derived by Lotka in 1920 ( Proc. National Acad. Sci. U.S.A. 6 412) and by Volterra in 1926 ( Mem. della Reale Accad. Nazionale dei Lincei Ser. 6. 2).
Chiefly Ecology.
Used attributively with reference to concepts and mathematical models developed by Lotka and Volterra, esp. systems of differential equations used to model variation in the sizes of populations which are interdependent (esp. predator and prey species) or otherwise related, e.g. through competing for the same resource. Esp. in Lotka–Volterra equations.
