Origin: A borrowing from Swahili. Etymon: Swahili mabati.
Etymology: < Swahili mabati < ma-, plural (and collective) class prefix + -bati white metal (such as tin or zinc), sheet metal, corrugated or galvanized iron (probably a loanword).
East African (chiefly Kenyan English).
Corrugated iron sheeting, used esp. as a building material for houses. Frequently as a modifier.
