Etymology: < lucky adj. + -ly suffix2.Forms with medial -e- (e.g. luckely, frequent in the 16th century) could alternatively be interpreted as reflecting forms of luck n. with final -e , and hence belong instead at luckly adv. (compare, however, luckenes at luckiness n. Forms).
1. With good luck; successfully, prosperously (now rare). Also (chiefly modifying an adjective or participle): by good luck, fortunately.
