单词 lymphatic
释义

lymphaticadj.n.

Brit. /lɪmˈfatɪk/, U.S. /lɪmˈfædɪk/
Forms: Also 1600s–1700s lymphatick, (1700s limphatic).
Etymology: < Latin lymphāticus mad, frenzied, < lympha lymph n. In modern scientific Latin the word has been used in the sense ‘pertaining to lymph’ (the ending having been probably misapprehended to be identical with that of spermatic, etc.); so French lymphatique, Italian linfatico. The classical Latin word is difficult to account for; perhaps it may be due to the association of lympha with νύμϕη (see lymph n.); compare Greek νυμϕιᾶν to be frenzy-stricken.
A. adj.
I. Senses relating to frenzy.
1. Frenzied, mad. Obsolete.
