Courtis in Engin. & Mining Jrnl. 29 Mar. 217/1 The nickel and silver were noticed by Mr. Macfarlane, who first examined Silver Islet, and thought by him to be possibly a new mineral; and at the Islet the ore goes by the name of macfarlanite, although it has not been decided whether it is only a mixture or a new mineral. 1880 Trans. Sibley—then president of the company, gave this mixture the name of ‘macfarlanite’, which is still used for it by superintendent and workmen at the mine. 1921 Univ. Toronto Stud.: Geol.
