1848 ‘Ignotus’ in London Jrnl. Arts, Sci., & Manuf. 32 67 Magnetine,—the magnetic power,—the most influential agent in nature, is at present only known by its effects. The hypothesis assumes it to be a matter, but of so attenuated, subtle, and permeable a kind, that when in a free state, no apparatus..is capable of retaining it.
1850 J. Ashburner tr. K. L. F. Reichenbach Physico-physiol. Res. Dynamics of Magnetism p. xiv It is upon their operation, but more particularly on the influence of magnetine, that the vital functions, in all their modifications are dependent.
