Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French mainprenable.
Etymology: < Anglo-Norman mainprenable, meinpernable < mainprendre (see mainpernor n.) + -able -able suffix. Compare post-classical Latin manucaptibilis , manucaptabilis (both forms 14th-cent. in British sources, and perhaps formed after the Anglo-Norman word). Compare earlier pernable adj.
Law. Obsolete.
Able to be stood surety for; eligible for release on bail.
