(see holocrine adj. at holo- comb. form , merocrine adj.). Formations within English are found from the first half of the 20th cent. Compare also Italian -crino (compare endocrine adj. and n.), Spanish -crino (compare endocrine adj. and n.), German -krin (compare paracrine adj.). Combining with first elements ultimately of Greek origin.
