单词 magydare
释义

magydaren.

Forms: 1500s maguder, 1500s–1700s magydare.
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin magūdaris.
Etymology: < classical Latin magūdaris, magȳdaris < Hellenistic Greek μαγύδαρις, perhaps a Semitic loanword. N.E.D. (1904) cites the classical Latin as magudaris, magydaris, -deris, probably following the identical lemmatization in C. T. Lewis and C. Short Lat. Dict. (1879); however, a form in -deris is not recorded in more recent dictionaries of classical Latin.
Obsolete.
The stalk of the plant silphium, source of the gum resin laser; the plant itself.
